Flagyl Suspension 200mg/5ml Bottle is for the temporary suspension of metronidazole (often used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria) in a liquid form. It contains the active ingredient metronidazole, which is a synthetic penicillin-type of antibiotic. This product is not indicated in the treatment of infections caused by certain types of bacteria. The product works by killing the bacteria causing the infection. It is usually more effective when metronidazole is taken regularly as directed. The mechanism of action of metronidazole is similar to that of the penicillin group of drugs. The action of metronidazole does not only kill the bacteria, but it also stops the growth of bacteria that have developed resistance to other members of this group of drugs. This product should be used as a single dose or in combination with a different type of antibiotic, e.g., erythromycin or ciprofloxacin.
